IZZY AT PLAY 5 LINOCUT BY BEN LAU 2006

12″X9″. Will sell for 2500.00

The powerful, calligraphic sweeps of the brushstrokes and the inimitable metaphors of two childhood friends–Izzy on the left, are just some of the characteristics of a Ben Lau composition.

Note the innovation in the almost brush-like technique in the coloring. Don’t forget it is a linocut. A linocut usually does not allow for that type of vitality and movement that one usually finds in a water- color or a wash.

It is also a monoprint, the only one out of the block–that is why I have set it at 2500.00 a little higher than the rest in my stock.

Any bit of innovation in Art is as good as gold. It is just as priceless as any invention or discovery in other fields of human endeavers.

Any Alpha Seer or Beta Seer could tell you that the powerful calligraphic brushstrokes, the metaphors of animal forms, the composition, the geometric groundwork, the compactness and the complexity of this work is impeccable. In fact, after I have completed the painting, I found myself idle away for a long time, devastated by its power and beauty, despairing over the possible loss in my ability to create something in the future that can match it stroke for stroke! Of course, that kind of aftermath is extremely common for those who aspire for the stars and it is symptomatic of certain psychological stress out of the fear of losing power or control. Unfortunately that type of aftermath-impact is powerful enough to drive any beauty- loving painter crazy–that may serve to explain why an artist often gets the blues. Picasso said,” I am a convict of my mind”. That is so true!

LOVERS Ben Lau linocut 12inX9in 2006.jpg

LOVERS linocut by Ben Lau 2006 12″X9″ 2006

Will sell for 3000.00

Even though I may have produced an edition of more than 10 for this image from the current block, I am still quite reluctant to part with this print at any offer! That explains why I have set it at a relatively high price compared with my other prints on display here.

Look in the Matisses and the Picassos and see if you can find anything from their oeuvres quite matching her charm! The chance is: good luck if you do–but explain it to me, stroke by stroke– so I can approprately rebut you and point out your oversight, if any!

Hey, I have promised Kate only to tell the truth–and nothing but the truth. Therefore, rest assured that I have given up bragging–not to mention the fact that I am too old to be able to derive meaningful pleasure from talking big!

Ben Lau lino Country Life.jpg

COUNTRY LIFE linocut by Ben Lau 2006 12″X12″

will sell for 2000.00

Note the configuration, the calligraphic movement and the geometric groundworks that govern the composition and set the tone for supreme mathematical relationships–my coded words for Beauty.

You may want to know which countryside the artist is depicting so you can move there, too. Sorry to disappoint you, as that won’t be in America! Actually, the peasant man is a centaur and the comely lass, a nymph–my metaphoric borrowing from Greek mythology. If there appears to be an intention to blast the twisted philosophy that sex is dirty, it is not my purpose. The minds of the priests, bishops, popes, mullahs and Ayatolahs in organized religions are dirty by nature and by their mediocre designs! I do not think they are even worthy of even a glancing reference from my art! So rest assured: this print is nothing but pure art–every molecule of it!

Sex is really Heaven on earth as those of you who have experienced it would care to testify. The French call the climax in sex “Minor Dying” or something to that effect…

Art,–another Heavenly gift like sex, should be thought fit to register sex– in truth, the union of Yin and Yang in the universe, and the true artist should also be well-versed enough to sing its praise.

The only people who hate it seem to be those who have been mentally or physically castrated or retarded! (Or you may get my fellow baby boomer, W’s opinion on that topic:some politicians may be in that “social eunach” category, too!)

A few words about the pricing of the art-works:

I, Ben Taishing Lau, am the person who has set those prices according to each work’s artistic merit as well as possible/ prospective market responses, the latter of which is purely a matter of guesswork on my part. Monthly instalment payment plans are available and can be arranged. (E-mail: lau_taishing@yahoo.com)

The prices won’t be the same once they have assumed and captured market dynamic. Therefore, this current pricing has become my minimal standard for the acquisition of those works at this point in time. It will only be adjusted in an upward spiral manner in the future–so fasten your seat-belt!

In the event that the other true masters known to me in this world, i.e. Master Knox Martin, Master Olivia, and Master Rosemary are also interested in selling their works on this site, I will, accordingly, display their works with the respective price tags here and there will not be any commission charge on any sale– but they are, of course, responsible for their own sale taxes.

This site has not been designed for frivolous illustrations. For that reason, even an ” artist” as famous as Andy Warhol, Norman Rockwell or Robert Rauschenberg will be turned away. I am not saying this for dramatic effects! I am saying this to underscore the fact that the quality of the works on sale here on this blog is thereby guaranteed.

I have been told: You are crazy– your prices have been set too high/you are not even famous, etc. Frankly, I expect all of those comments, embrace them and I decide to hold on to all of my artworks without a single sale in my lifetime, if it should come to that.

These arts belong to my family and my descendents anyway! My family has already issued a domestic decree forbidding me to give away anymore of my works– even as presents– effective from March 4, 2006.

Believe me, if no one is willing to pay those prices for them– good for them–and good for us! People who cannot see beauty in them should save their gold and silver for better purposes. People who truly see their beauty would tell you that even at those prices, they are still a brutal give-away by the extremely generous Master Ben Lau!
